Mrs. Oertel
I live in Guilderland, New York with my husband Christopher and three children: Benjamin, 13, Max, 11, and Emma, 7. The kids are an active bunch, playing baseball, soccer, basketball, dance, softball ,and participating in religion and Brownies! They certainly keep us busy! We also have an awesome dog named Apollo and 2 cats, Gunther and Mason...although Gunther thinks he's a dog and we call him "Puppy Kitty"!
I went to undergraduate school at SUNY Oneonta and graduated with a BS in Sociology. That was in 1993. When Benjamin was 6 months old, I started my graduate program at The College of Saint Rose, graduating in 2006 (with family in tow!) with an MS in Childhood Education. I am certified in Early Childhood Education and Childhood Education. Currently, I am taking classes for my literacy certification. Not only will this result in another certification, but I am also increasing my knowledge as a teacher and thus increasing my skills to teach my students. Being in school also helps me practice what I preach - Be a lifelong learner.
Besides carting my kids to all their events and to their friends' houses, I serve on the Board of Directors for our Little League and have taught religion class at our church. I LOVE to read, exercise, and spend time with my family and friends. When the kids were younger, I did a lot of scrapbooking, but that has been replaced with supervising homework, cleaning up after the large brood, and getting everyone where they need to be! During the summer we like to vacation, hike, read, and swim. Every summer I read my children 2-3 books aloud...then we watch the movie and have ice cream dinner! What kind of ice cream is your favorite?
